Thank you for visiting this web site, my name is Debbie Mary Flett my qualifications are as follows:
My Counselling training started in Sep 2000, leading on to my final qualification Advanced Diploma in therapeutic counselling, this was awarded in 2004. During these four years as a student I was working as a volunteer addiction counsellor (drug and alcohol abuse), along with studying towards my doctorate in psychology. In August 2005 I was awarded a Diploma with merit and distinction in clinical hypnotherapy ( E.T.UK). In June 2007 I was awarded my diploma in NLP excellence, leading on to my practitioners certificated in N.L.P. and finally awarded my Master Practitioner in N.L.P. In June 2007. I graduated from the Institute of Holistic Mental Health and was awarded my doctorate of psychology.
My Philosophy:
I feel that I have a lot to contribute to the counselling world, because I look at life as a journey and a constant learning process. It is my belief that every person is born with special gifts or talents and the power within oneself to overcome most psychosomatic problems
One of my strengths as a counsellor/therapist is being an active listener. The main role of any counsellor/therapist is to facilitate their therapy sessions. All my sessions are equally centred around the client. I enjoy helping clients with needs and assisting them to find a goal and reaching that goal whether it is using counselling, NLP, or hypnotherapy. The treatment between me, the counsellor/therapist, and the client will stay only within the session and therapy room. My personal life as well as the clients should be kept separate from the counselling session itself. As a counsellor/therapist, I should not involve the client in any of my own personal life, involving my family, residence, etc. This is not only for ethical reasons, but for my own personal safety as well. The treatment may be friendly, yet it has to be professional and acceptable.
Having said all of the above, it is important to understand while counselling clients with addiction (alcohol and drug abuse) the personal life of the client needs to be thoroughly explored.
